1. -4a-6=-12
add 6 to both sides
-4a-6+6=-12+6
-4a=-6
Divide by -4
a= \frac{6}{4} = 1 \frac{1}{2}

2. \frac{3}{5} z- \frac{1}{4} = \frac{17}{20}
add \frac{1}{4} to both sides but you will need to make a common denominator on the right
\frac{3}{5} z- \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{17}{20} +  \frac{5}{20}
\frac{3}{5}z=  \frac{11}{10}
Divide by \frac{3}{5} which means multiply by the <span>reciprocal</span>.
\frac{3}{5}* \frac{5}{3} z= \frac{11}{10} * \frac{5}{3}
z= \frac{55}{30} =1 \frac{5}{6}

3. 2 \frac{1}{2}(e-1 \frac{3}{4})=5 \frac{1}{2}
Distribute
2 \frac{1}{2} e-4 \frac{3}{8} =5 \frac{1}{2}
Subtract
2 \frac{1}{2} e=1 \frac{1}{8}
Divide
e= \frac{9}{20}

4. 3w+7=20
Subtract
3w=13
Divide
w= \frac{13}{3} = 4 \frac{1}{3}

5. -.2p+.4=-1.2
Subtract
-.2p=-1.6
Divide
p=8

6. \frac{y}{4} - \frac{3}{5} = \frac{18}{20}
Add, made sure you change to common denominator first
\frac{y}{4} = 1 \frac{1}{4}
Multiply by 4
y=5

Hope that helps

A certain 300-term geometric sequence has first term 1337 and common ratio $-\frac12$. How many terms of this sequence are great
TEA [102]

There are 6 terms in the sequence greater than 1.

<h3>What is a geometric series ?</h3>

A geometric series is  sum of infinite numbers which has a common ratio between its successive terms.

The missing common ratio value is -1/2

It is given in the question that

the number of terms in the sequence = 300

Sum = a₁ (1-rⁿ)/(1-r)

nth term is given by

aₙ = a₁r⁽ⁿ⁻ ¹⁾

1337(1/2)^(n - 1) = 1

(1/2)^(n - 1)  = 1/1337

Applying log on both sides

log (1/2)^(n - 1) = log (1/1337)

(n - 1) log(1/2)  = log(1/1337)

n  = log (1/1337)/ log (1/2) + 1 ≈ 11.384

the 11th term  is 1337(-1/2)^(10)  ≈ 1.305

and

And the 12th term is 1337(-1/2)^11  =  -.653

As the even terms are negative , they are less than 1 and , therefore the odd terms from 1 - 11 term will be positive and greater than 1.

Therefore there are 6 terms in the sequence greater than 1.
