The main consequences of this revolution were that it highlighted the failed state-level leadership, hunger, poverty and the wrong policies of the government.

Before the civil war was fought mainly for states rights but when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued freeing slaves the war became a moral issue therefore prohibiting Britain from supporting the Confederacy because they recently freed their own slaves and did not support slavery.
