An energy pyramid shows the amount of available at each feeding level in an ecosystem. This energy pyramid shows the amount of energy available at each tropic level showing the food energy progression. The pyramids contain energy starting with the producers (plants) at the bottom to primary consumers, tertiary consumers and so on up to the top of the food chain. The most common units are grams per square meter per year or calories per square meter per year.
