A comma splice occurs when two independent clauses are incorrectly joined by a comma to make one sentence. The first step in order to avoid comma splaces is to indentify independent sentences which are those complete sentence that can stand on its own. Independent sentences are clauses with a subject and a verb.

So, the sentence of the options provided which serves as an example of comma splice is option D. Sherri likes to take pictures, she is taking a photography class.

In this case, two independent sentences are incorrectly linked by a comma.

The last sentence is an example of a comma splice since 2 independent clauses are connected by only a comma(it needs a coordinating conjunction after the comma or change it to semicolon or period)

When food rations had to be cut, why did Squealer speak of it as a "readjustment," never as a "reduction"?
Anna [14]
<span>"Readjustment" is a euphemism for "reduction" it is a term which is much less harsh.  If squealer had said that there would be "reduction" of food, the animals might understand the fact that they are going to have less to eat  while the pigs and dogs are going to have more.  There can be some words that are harsher than others depending in which way you use them. Hope this helps...</span>
