Empathy is the ability of any individual to understand the situation, viewpoint, thoughts and feeling of other person.

Neutrality is state in which one is able to understand the stance of two parties but one does not take side for any party.

Indifference is state in which one does not show any concern and interest towards any situation, thought or feeling. There is lack of emotion when one exhibit indifferent behavior.

When world war one started US was neutral which was pledged by US president Woodrow Wilson.

However US was close Trading partner of UK. Germany was trying to quarantine British Isles at that time US showed empathetic attitude towards UK and tension arose between US and Germany.

After that series of event such as killing of American people on US vessels,  damage of US ships infuriated the US and they pledged a war against Germany.
