Ex.1
Anna11 [10]

Answer:

1. Dishonest.

2. Uncooperative.

3. Unfair.

4. Insensitive.

5. Disloyal.

Ex. II.

1. Physicist.

2. Discovery.

3. Canals.

4. Discovery.

5. Novels.

Explanation:

Exercise I.

1. John was dishonest and didn’t tell his parents the truth. The opposite of honest is dishonest which simply means not being truthful.

2. Tim often refuses to work with others. He’s quite uncooperative. The opposite of cooperative is uncooperative and it simply means not being open or willing to work with others.

3. Bill sang better than Jan, but she won the singing contest. That was unfair. The opposite of fear is unfair which simply means to act in an irrational manner.

4. Martin upsets people sometimes with the things he says. He can be a bit insensitive. The opposite of sensitive is insensitive and it simply means having an error of judgement or lacking in emotional intelligence.

5. My friends are never disloyal They’d never talk about me when I’m not there. The opposite of loyal is disloyal which simply means to demonstrate divided support for someone or something.

Exercise II.

Do you have lots of dreams and ambitions for the future? I do! For example, I think it would be important to become a brilliant physicist and be famous all over the world because I had made a great discovery. The problem is, I'm not very good at science! So instead, I'd like to have a boat, and travel up and down the canals in my country. I love being on water! And during my journeys, I could spend some time taking photographs of the countryside and selling them to make money. Then in my spare time, I could read my favorite novels! Sounds great, doesn't it?

According to Edgar Allan Poe in "The Philosophy of Composition", Why are long poems a problem when it comes to "Unity of Impress
OlgaM077 [116]
A, because they have to be read in more than one sitting, which breaks up the effect.

To quote him, “If any literary work is too long to be read in one sitting, we must be content to dispense with the immensely important effect derivable from unity of impression.”

Hope this helps!
