Here's how to solve this equation:

4 - <span>√2x-5 = 1
</span><span>√2x-5 = 4-1
</span><span>√2x-5 = 3 (now we have to square both sides to get rid of the root)
</span><span>√2x-5=3  / ^2
</span>(<span>√2x-5)^2 = 3^2
2x-5 = 9
2x = 9+5
2x = 14
x = 14/2
x = 7

The correct answer is 7. </span>

What is the value of x in the equation 1/5x – 2/3y = 30, when y = 15?
lianna [129]

Answer:

x = 200

Step-by-step explanation:

1/5x – 2/3y = 30

substitute in y

1/5x - 2/3(15) = 30

multiply

1/5x - 10 = 30

isolate the variable

1/5x = 40

multiply each side by 5

x = 200

I need to simplify this complex fraction
vovangra [49]

I see two ways to do it.

First, you have to understand that when you see a 'complex fraction' like this, the top number is a numerator, and the two bottom numbers are both denominators.

Way-1:

Take the top fraction . . . 2/2 .  That's equal to 1 . So the whole thing is <em>1/3</em>.

Way-2:

Multiply the bottom two denominators.  Then the whole thing is 2/(2·3) .  That's the same thing as  2/6 .  Simplify that, and you have <em>1/3</em> .
