A solution is extraneous when the denominator of the function becomes zero when the solution is substituted.

Equating each of the options to 0:
x^2 +3x-4 = 0
x = 1 and -4

You can check the other options but they won't result to having a solution of x=-4

Therefore, the possible denominator of the function is x^2 +3x-4

Answer:

Option 1

Step-by-step explanation:

We will find the solution for the expression in option 1

x^2+3x-4

x^2+4x-x+4

x^2-x+4x-4

x(x-1)+4(x-1)

(x+4)(x-1)

Hence, x=1 and x=-4 willl be the solution

Hence, x^2+3x-4  will be in denominator.

Hence, Option 1 is correct

Option 2,3 and 4 are discarded.

In triangle MNO shown below, segment NP is an altitude:
Effectus [21]

Answer:  C. Definition of an Altitude

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: In triangle MNO shown below, segment NP is an altitude from the right angle.

Let ∠MNP=x

Then ∠PNO=90°-x

Therefore in triangle MNO,

∠MPN=∠NPO =90°  [by definition of Altitude]

[Definition of altitude : A line which passes through a vertex of a triangle, and joins the opposite side forming right angles. ]

Now using angle sum property in ΔMNP

∠MNP+∠MPN+∠PMN=180°

⇒x+90°+∠PMN=180°

⇒∠PMN=180°-90°-x

⇒∠PMN=90°-x

Now, in ΔMNO and ΔPNO

∠PMN=∠PNO=90°-x

and ∠MPN=∠NPO =90°  [by definition of altitude]

Therefore by AA similarity postulate, we have

ΔMNO ≈ ΔPNO

A bus makes 28 stops every 2 hours how many stops does it make in 3 hours and in 4 hours
djverab [1.8K]
Step one: Do half of 28. So now you know what one hour is okay.
Step two: You now know three hours is 42 stops
Step Three: total amount in 4 hours 28 times 2 and that is 56 stops
Hopes this helps mate

The length of a rectangle is five centimeters more than twice its width. The perimeter is 100 centimeters. Use Guess and Check t
Nikolay [14]

Guessing and checking isn't the best solution, so I will demonstrate it another way.

Let x be the width. We know that the length is then 2x+5.

So, 2(x+2x+5)=100

3x+5=50

3x=45

So, x=15.

Therefore, the rectangle is 15 centimeters wide.

Guessing and checking could also work. Once you plug in a value, if it is less than 100, than increase you number. The other way works as well.
