The process that is characterized by the movement of particles from the area of high concentration to the area of low concentration across the plasma membrane without the use of energy is called PASSIVE TRANSPORT.
When it comes to movement of particles into cells, there are two basic types of transportation, these are active and passive transport. The active transport system needs energy in form of ATP to move the particles across the cell membranes while the passive transport system does not require energy. The rate at which active transport occur usually depend on the permeability of the cell membrane. There are four examples of passive transport, these are: simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis and filteration.

The correct answer is option C. The passive transport is a process which is characterized by the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration across the plasma membrane without the use of energy because, its particle move by themselves due to entropy. Whereas, active transport requires energy to move form low concentration to higher concentration..

What do you think selectively permeable means?
enot [183]

Answer:

B. The membrane lets certain substances move across it freely, while others must move through a “gate”.

Explanation:

Selective permeability is a property of cellular membranes that only allows certain molecules to enter or exit the cell. This is important for the cell to maintain its internal order irrespective of the changes to the environment. For example, water, ions, glucose and carbon dioxide may need to be imported or exported from the cell depending on its metabolic activity. Similarly, signaling molecules may need to enter the cell and proteins may need to be released into the extracellular matrix. The presence of a selectively permeable membrane allows the cell to exercise control over the quantum, timing and rate of movement of these molecules.

Glycogen Synthase Kinase:_______.
horrorfan [7]

Answer:

A. Will only phosphorylate glycogen synthase (GS) after GS has been phosphorylated by casein kinase.

Explanation:

Glycogen synthase kinase (GSK) is a type of enzyme capable of phosphorylating serine and threonine residues on the glycogen synthase (GS). The insulin hormone activates the synthesis of glycogen by dephosphorylating GS, but it is a mechanism that depends on the previous phosphorylation of GS by Casein Kinase (CK). GSK is also known to phosphorylate the insulin receptor (IRS), and thus controlling glucose metabolism.
