Hello! A place is a specific point on the Earth. It has a particular characteristic that makes it unique from other places. A region, however, is a larger area on the Earth that has a particular characteristic. The three types of regions are formal (where one characteristic is found throughout the region), functional (a region centered around a focal point), and vernacular (one's perception of a region that cannot be identified by definite boundaries).
