The nickles and dimes are worth 13.90
Since nickles are worth 5 cents and dimes worth 10 cents, we'll take the number of nickles, x and multiply by 5, and likewise the number of dimes, y and multiply by 10. Since we are using cents, we'll convert 13.90 to cents by moving the decimal two places.and making it 1390

5x + 10y = 1390

There are 196 coins.
When counting them we'll just take the number of nickles, x, and add them to the number of dimes, y.

x+y=196

What two numbers add up to-294
drek231 [11]
There are a couple of sets of numbers that would add up to -294. Obviously -293 and -1, but I am sure your teacher wouldn't be to happy with that answer :D. A better answer could be -147 and -174; or maybe different numbers like -156 and -138.

I hope this helps!

What is the common difference of the arithmetic sequence-20,-16,-12,-18
Paul [167]

Answer:

common difference = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

common difference is the difference between the successive term and its preceding term.

let's take the successive term of -20 that is - 16

common difference (d) = successive term - preceeding term

= -16 -(-20)

= -16 + 20

= 4

if we take the successive term of -16 that is -12

we'll get the same common difference.

d = -12 -(-16)

d = -12 + 16

d = 4

this means that the common difference for an AP remains constant.
