Melissa poured 1/4 can of syrup into a bowl. She spilled 1/5 of the syrup into a bowl that was left of the can. What fraction of the original can of syrup was left in the can?

Lets have 100 represent the can. 
1/4 = .25 so we will convert it to 25
100 - 25 = 75
1/5 of 75 is 15
75 - 15 = 60
60/100 = 6/10 = 3/5
