A chandelier is suspended by two identical, vertical chains side by side. The chandelier's mass is m = 6.5 kg. Part (a) If the t

ension in one chain is represented by T, write an expression for the magnitude of the tension in terms of m and g, the gravitational acceleration on the Earth's surface. Part (b) What is the tension in one chain, T, in newtons? Part (c) If the tops of the chains are separated so that the chains are no longer vertical, does the tension increase or decrease?

Answer:

a) tension on each chain T= mg/2

b) tension T = 31. 88 N

c) the tension T will increase

Explanation:

Mass of chandelier m = 6.5 Kg

acceleration due to gravity g = 9.81 m/s2

a) the total tension on the chain must be equal to the weight of the chandelier downwards.

Weight = mass x acceleration (gravity)

W = mg

Since there are two chains, this weight will be divided equally on the chains. Therefore,

Tension on each chain T = mg/2

b) tension in one chain T = mg/2

T = (6.5 x 9.81)/2

T = 63.765/2 = 31.88 N

c) seperating the two chains will put them at an angle to the horizontal θ

The effective tension at this angle will be, T'

T' sinθ = T

i.e T' = T/sinθ

Since sinθ will be less than 90°,

T' will be greater than T

Answer:

a)T= mg/2

b) T = 31. 88 N

c)Tension will increase

Explanation:

Given that m= 6.5 Kg

a)

The force due to gravity = m g

The tension in the chain = T

The total tension = 2 T

By balancing force in vertical direction

2 T = m g

T= mg/2

b)

2 T = m g

2 x T = 6.5 x 9.81

T = 31. 88 N

c)

Lets take angle made by chain is θ

So the total tension in vertical direction = 2 T cos θ

2 T cos θ = m g

T= mg/(2cos θ)

It means that tension will increase because cos θ is always less than 1.

Within any ecosystem, there is a fixed amount of energy available for organisms to use. Since organisms usually produce more off
Viefleur [7K]
I'm going to say carrying capacity since carrying capacity is the maximum amount of organisms that can live in an ecosystem. So the reason for there being a maximum of organisms is because, like the question says, organisms usually produce more offspring than the ecosystem can support.

What does NOT experience gravity?
marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

Astronauts who are orbiting the Earth often experience sensations of weightlessness. These sensations experienced by orbiting astronauts are the same sensations experienced by anyone who has been temporarily suspended above the seat on an amusement park ride. Not only are the sensations the same (for astronauts and roller coaster riders), but the causes of those sensations of weightlessness are also the same. Unfortunately however, many people have difficulty understanding the causes of weightlessness.

A sample of nitrogen occupies 5.50 liters under a pressure of 900 torr at 25oC. At what temperature will it occupy 10.0 liters a
vitfil [10]

Answer:

<u>At 268.82°C</u> volume occupied by nitrogen is 10 liters at pressure of 900 torr.

Explanation:

Given:

Volume of a sample of nitrogen = 5.50 liters

Pressure = 900 torr

Temperature = 25°C

To find the temperature at which the nitrogen will occupy 10 liters volume at same pressure.

Solution:

Since the pressure is kept constant, so we can apply the temperature-volume law also called the Charles Law.

Charles Law states that the volume of a gas held at constant pressure is directly proportional to the temperature of the gas in Kelvin.

Thus, we have :

V ∝ T

\frac{V}{T}=k

where k is a constant.

For two samples of gases, the law can be given as:

\frac{V_1}{T_1}=\frac{V_2}{T_2}

From the data given:

V_1=5.5\ l

T_1=25\ \°C =(273+25)K= 298 K

V_2=10\ l

We need to find T_2.

Plugging in values in the formula.

\frac{5.5}{298}=\frac{10}{T_2}

Multiplying both sides by T_2.

T_2\times\frac{5.5}{298}=\frac{10}{T_2}\times T_2

\frac{5.5}{298}T_2={10}

Multiplying both sides by \frac{298}{5.5}

\frac{298}{5.5}\times\frac{5.5}{298}T_2=\frac{10\times 298}{5.5}

T_2=541.82\ K

T_2=541.82\ K-273\ K = 268.82\°C

Thus, at 268.82°C volume occupied by nitrogen is 10 liters at pressure of 900 torr.
