An article in USA TODAY† describes a study of how young children learn. Sixty-four 18-month-old toddlers participated in the stu

dy. The toddlers were allowed to play in a lab equipped with toys, which also had a robot hidden behind a screen. The article states: "After allowing the infants play time, the team removed the screen and let the children see the robot. In some tests, an adult talked to the robot and played with it. In others the adult ignored the robot. After the adult left the room, the robot beeped and then turned its head to look at a toy to the side of the infant. In cases where the adult had played with the robot, the infant was four times more likely to follow the robot's gaze to the toy." Indicate whether the study is an observational study or an experiment. Give a brief explanation for your choice. (Hint: See Examples 1.2 and 1.3.) This is an observational study because the researchers observed how all the toddlers acted under the same conditions. This is an observational study because the researchers examined the toddlers observing adults and robots. This is an experiment because the researchers were using technological equipment, like robots. This is an experiment because the researchers assigned the toddlers to different experimental treatments.

Answer:

It's an observational study.

Explanation:

Because the study was focused on the reactions of the toddlers with the robot, the mainly thing on it was the behavior of them and reaction after the adult left the room; they used variants for them to compared and therefore has a more clear result.

a_sh-v [17]

Answer:

Socialization is a twofold process occurring at both the social and individual levels that accomplishes two main goals. So, according to the scenario of the first situation is the way "parents teach children how to eat food" and the scenario for the second situation is "schools teach students how to gain employment that will allow them to provide themselves":

Explanation:

To understand these answers we have to remember the goals o socialization and analyze the context o the formulations.

First of all the main goal of socialization is to prepare anyone to participate in the dynamic of any group. In other words, it provides the subject of the skills required to interact inside different social groups doing the expected behavior and learning from them.

Second, it provides not only the social skills to interact but also the skills any subject could need to survive in any group and be a functional subject inside the current group to satisfy all his or her needs. That is why in the first case we observe a very basic skill developed and in the second a more sophisticated skill the subjects would require to survive in any society by being auto sufficient and interdependent.
