This is the process of excitation and conduction in vertebrate myelinated nerve fibers, characterized by its discontinuous and saltatory features. Myelinated axons just allow action potentials in the unmyelinated nodes of Ranvier. Electrical impulses are transmitted between components of the central nervous system via interneurons.
