Serfs and peasants were expelled from their ancestral lands thus flocking into the cities in search of factory jobs, thus increasing the city populations of cities which became increasingly diverse

The geographic and climatic conditions of the British colonies in America helped them to establish different economic activities. The colonies divide into three regions which included New England, the Middle, and the Southern Colonies.

The New England Colonies founded by Puritans. The geography of the region cover coastlines, rocky soil, large trees, mountains, along with a harsh winter climate. The geographical condition allowed people to engage in economic activities, including shipbuilding, shipping, whaling, and fishing. Many of the colonists were occupations were merchants, blacksmith, artisans, traders, and furniture maker.

The location of the middle colonies made them a trading centre. Colonists involve in cultivating crops like wheat and corn with livestock. Several productions happened in these colonies that include shipbuilding, papermaking, textile production, iron ore, textiles, furs (beaver pelt) and lumber from forests.

The Southern Colonies indulged in plantations. The cash crop like tobacco, cotton, rice, and indigo grown. The South was much more suitable in farming than the other two colonies. Planters in plantation use slaves as labour to work in fields.

Above mention, physical geography of America led colonies to develop in a different than others and help them in focus in several occupations.
