What would be a likely consequence of a mutation in plants that results in a photorespiration deficiency? photosynthetic efficie

ncy would be reduced at low light intensities. cells would carry on the calvin cycle at a much slower rate. less oxygen would be produced by photosynthesis. there would be more cellular damage from harmful products of the light reactions of photosynthesis?

The mutation may cause the induction of cellular damage that may occur due to harmful products of light reaction of photosynthesis.

Further Explanation:

Photosynthesis occurs in every plants. The photosynthesis process occurs in the chloroplast of the cell. <u>The process can be divided into two phase:</u>

1. Light dependent phase

2. Light independent phase

In the light dependent phase, the plant generates energy in the form of ATP molecule which can further be utilized in the light independent phase wherein the Calvin cycle operates.

In some plants beside the Calvin cycle another cycle known as the Hatch and Slack pathway operates.

<u>Photorespiration </u>is the process which occurs in the plants where only the Calvin cycle operates. In these types of plants the acceptor of carbon dioxide molecule is RUBP or Ribulose1,5-bisphosphate. This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme known as RUBISCO or RUBP carboxylase oxygenase. RUBISCO molecule can accept oxygen as well as the carbon dioxide molecules. When it accepts the oxygen molecule it leads to the initiation of the photorespiration process.

The photorespiration process does not occur in the plants in which both <u>Calvin cycle and the Hatch and Slack pathway operates</u>. The photorespiration may be involved in the prevention of the cell from the cellular damage.

<span>Answer: There would be more cellular damage from harmful products of the light reactions of photosynthesis.</span>

<span>Photorespiration is a light dependent reaction that uptake molecular oxygen and release of carbon dioxide from organic compund. Photorespiration is linked to photosynthesis by ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase. However,  consequence of mutation in plant due to photorespiration deficiency will result into </span>more cellular damage from harmful products of the light reactions of photosynthesis.

How do i describe the ATP molecule and its functions within the cell
Darina [25.2K]
<em>ATP stands for denosine tri phosphate ..
<u>formation:
</u>it is formed in the respiration ..also 36 molecules of ATP are formed during break down of 1 glucose molecule ..
<u>function:
</u>its function is to provide energy  ,,
<u>how it provides energy:
</u>when one phosphate molecule separate ATP is converted into ADP and energy is released..
and when one phosphate is separated from ADP AMP is formed and energy is released ..
