As the revolution reached its end in the year 1793-1794 it grew more radical under the supervision of Maximilien Robespierre, this period in the history of France is known as the  Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror began with a political theory, the Republic of Virtue, presented by Robespierre on 5th February 1794. This theory supported the use of terror to defend democracy.
