President Reagan (or more specifically, president's administration, as he was not acting alone) intervened in the politics of Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Suriname and also some Southern American countries such as Argentina. He was supporting the right-wing parties as left-wing parties were seen as associated with Communism and the policy was to hinder the spread of communism.

However this support is highly problematic, as for example in Guatemala he supported the government forces that performed a genocide on the indigenous population.
