The factors  that may  be  responsible  for  the ionization energy  within  a period  is

  • The diameter  of the atom decreases  somewhat as electrons are  added.
  • The attractive force of the nucleus increases

   <u><em>Explanation</em></u>

  • ionization  energy  is the Electron  shielding.
  • Generally  there  is  increase of  ionization  across the period  that is from the left  to the right.
  • Across  the period ( from left  to right)  the diameter   of the atom  decreases. This make it harder  to remove  an electron as you go across the period,  thus ionization energy increase across the period (  from left  to right).
  • The force of attraction of the  nucleus increase across the period ( from left to right). This is due to increase in number of protons across the period.

What is the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution with a pH of 2.36?
Viefleur [7K]

Answer:

b)

Explanation:

pH =  -  log[H {}^{ + } ] \\ 2.36 =  -  log[H {}^{ + } ] \\ [H {}^{ + } ] =  {10}^{ - 2.36}  \\ [H {}^{ + } ] = 4.37 \times  {10}^{ - 3}  \: M

Use the given relationship to calculate the ionization energy of a thallium atom, given that radiation of 58.4 nm produces elect
Elenna [48]

The ionization energy is 1  × 10^-18 J

<h3>What is ionization energy?</h3>

The ionization energy is the energy required to remove an electron from an atom.

We have the following information;

wavelength of the photon = 58.4 nm

Speed of the electron = 2310 × 10^3 m/s

Since;

hv = I + 1/2mv^2

v = c/λ

hc/λ =  I + 1/2mv^2

I = hc/λ  - 1/2mv^2

I = (6.6 × 10^-34 × 3 × 10^8/58.4 × 10^-9) - (1/2 × 9.11 × 10^-31 × (2310 × 10^3)^2)

I = 1  × 10^-18 J

Energy that is associated with the position or composition of an object is called a kinetic energy. b potential energy. c therma
VLD [36.1K]
<h2>The required "option is b) potential energy".</h2>

Explanation:

  • The energy which is associated with the motion of the object is called kinetic energy.
  • The energy which is associated with the amount of heat released is known as thermal energy.
  • The energy which is released during a chemical reaction is known as chemical energy.

          Therefore, option (a), (c), and (d) are incorrect.

  • The energy which is possessed by a stationary object or associated with the position of an object is called as potential energy.
  • Hence, the correct option is potential energy.
