The car lands 35.6 m from the base of the cliff

Explanation:

The motion of the car is a projectile motion, which consists of two independent motions:

- A uniform motion (constant velocity) along the horizontal direction

- A uniformly accelerated motion, with constant acceleration (acceleration of gravity) in the downward direction

We start by analyzing the vertical motion, in order to find the time of flight of the car. We do it by using the following suvat equation:

s=u_y t+\frac{1}{2}at^2

where:

s = 25.3 m is the vertical displacement of the car (the height of the cliff)

u_y=0 is the initial vertical velocity of the car (because it is moving horizontally)

t is the time of the fall

a=g=9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity

Solving for t, we find :

t=\sqrt{\frac{2s}{g}}=\sqrt{\frac{2(25.3)}{9.8}}=2.27 s

Now we can analyze the horizontal motion of the car, which moves with constant horizontal velocity of

v_x = 15.7 m/s

Therefore, the horizontal distance covered in a time t is

d=v_x t

and by substituting t = 2.27 s, we find the how far from the base of the cliff the car lands:

d=(15.7)(2.27)=35.6 m

Julie throws a ball to her friend Sarah. The ball leaves Julie's hand a distance 1.5 meters above the ground with an initial spe
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

Explanation:

1.  V_{x} = V_{0} * cos\alpha ⇒ 16*cos32 ≈ 13.6 m/s (13.56)

2. V_{y} = V_{0} * sin\alpha ⇒ 16* sin32 ≈ 9.4 m/s

3. y_{max} = \frac{v_{0}^2*sin^2\alpha}{2g}= \frac{16^2*sin^232}{2*9.8} (the g (gravity) depends on the country but i'll take the average g which is 9.2m/s^2)

y_{max} ≈ 3.6677+1.5 ≈ 5.2m

4.  x_{max} = \frac{v_{0}^2*sin(2\alpha)}{g}=\frac{16^2*sin(2*32)}{9.8} ≈ 23.5m (23.47)

5. -

answer 4 could be wrong, not certain about that one and i don't know 5

A train travels due south at 20 m/s. It reverses its direction and travels due north at 20 m/s. What is the change in velocity o
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

40 m/s due north

Explanation:

Consider that the south direction a negative Y axis and north direction as  + Y axis

v1 = 20 m/s South = 20 (-j) m/s

v2 = 20 m/s North = 20 j m/s

Change in velocity = v2 - v1 = 20 j - 20 (-j) = 40 j m/s

So, change in velocity is 40 m/s due north.
