Set up the equation ... 60 + 40X = total charges... where X is the number of hours (8.5)

60 + 40(8.5) = ?
60 + 340 = ?
400 = total charges

So first set up an equation. x= total charges.
h= hour.
40h+60=x now plug in for h which is 8.5  and then solve for x
40(8.5) +60=x now 40*8.5=340+60=400=x this is how much he got payed after working for 8.5 hours. hope this helped you have an amazing day!!! :)
