You are working in an alternative fuels laboratory and have been asked by your supervisor to determine the efficiency of photosy

nthesis for a plant that is being considered as a source of biofuels. You know that the plant produces the equivalent of 24 kg of sucrose per hectare per hour. You also know that sun supplies energy at a rate of 1.0 kilowatt per square meter of surface area. Assume that sucrose is produced by the reaction: 12 CO3 (g) + 11 H2O (g) ? C12H22O11 (s) + 12O2 (l) ? H = -5640 kJ

Explanation:

Moles of sucrose = \frac{\text{mass of sucrose}}{\text{molecular weight}}

                       = \frac{24 kg \times 1000 g/kg}{342.3 g/mol}

                        = \frac{70.114 mol}{hr-ha}} \times \frac{1 ha}{10000 m^{2}} \times \frac{1 hr}{3600 s}

                        = 1.948 \times 10^{-6} mol/(m^{2}s)

Energy required for photosynthesis = 5640 kJ/mol

Energy needed to produce 24 kg sucrose

         = Energy required for photosynthesis x Moles of sucrose

          = (5640 kJ/mol) \times [1.948 x 10^{-6} mol/(m^{2}s)]

          = 0.01098 kJ/(m^{2}s)

Energy supplied from sun = 1 \frac{kW}{m^{2}}

                                            = 1 kJ/(m^{2}s)

Efficiency for photosynthesis = \frac{\text{Energy needed to produce 24 kg sucrose}}{\text{Energy supplied from sun}}

                              = \frac{0.01098 kJ/(m^{2}s)}{1 kJ/(m^{2}s)}

                             = 0.01098 \times 100

                              = 1.098%

Thus, we can conclude that efficiency of photosynthesis for a plant that is being considered as a source of biofuels is 1.098 %.

What does Na2S formula mean?; What is the two in Na2S called?; How do you write Na2S?; What state of matter is Na2S?
xxTIMURxx [149]

The chemical compound sodium sulfide has the formula Na2S. It is written as Na_{2}S. It has a crystalline state. Na is followed by a two or 2. this indicates that the molecule has two of the specified element's atoms.

There is just one of these because there is no number following the S.

In all, this molecule consists of one sulfur atom and two sodium atoms.

A compound's chemical formula, which uses symbols for combining atoms, reveals the composition of the complex. We require the valency of the combining parts in order to write the formula.

The sodium sulfide chemical formula must be written down. So sodium and sulfur make up the two elements in the chemical. Sodium has a valency of +1, while sulfur has a +2.

Calculate the number of moles when 3.00l of a gas at 814 mmhg and 25 °c?
Mariulka [41]
  • Volume=V=3L
  • Pressure=P=814mmHg
  • Temp=T=25°C

So

No of moles=n

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail PV=nRT

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail n=\dfrac{PV}{RT}

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail n=\dfrac{814(3)}{25R}

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail n=2442/25R

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail n=97.7Rmol

The pressure that is the difference between the net hydrostatic pressure and the net colloid osmotic pressure is called
mina [271]

The pressure calculated as the difference between the net hydrostatic pressure and the net colloid osmotic pressure is known as: filtration pressure.

<h3>What is pressure?</h3>

Pressure can be defined as a measure of the force exerted per unit area of an object or body. Thus, it is usually measured in Newton per meter square.

<h3>The types of pressure.</h3>

In Science, there are different types of pressure and these include the following:

  • Hydrostatic pressure
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Osmotic pressure
  • Filtration pressure

Filtration pressure is a pressure that is typically calculated as the difference between the net hydrostatic pressure and the net colloid osmotic pressure. Also, it promotes the filtration of fluid through a membrane.
