This is because the situation may be a dangerous one and so you know what you may need to do.
For example if you walk into a room and the people inside are unconscious,accessing the situation may show you the dangers inside the room allowing you the knowledge of whether or not to proceed.In this scenario you may see a possible gas leak and know it's unsafe and you won't be able to stay in this room.
