1) a clear thesis statement. The importance of expressing a certain view or position in a topic is essential, it needs to be coherent along the text and written in such a way that anyone should be able to understand the idea.

The target audience could be a general one, so the way the thesis is handled should be thought for considering someone with general few background knowledge should be able to be understood

2) evidence and support to address counterarguments

Although essays are exposing a determinate view, they still need evidence, in order to show the idea exposed is rational, logical and is able to persuade its audience. The support of argumentative essays comes from also considering the arguments against the main idea.

3) a clear organization

The organization becomes clear when seen as a whole, the introduction, development or body and conclusion should all have a clear structure. An idea becomes a sentence, while a set of similar ideas arrange to form paragraphs. The order is An introductory paragraph.  A body with arguments. Refusing opposing arguments in later paragraphs. Finally, a conclusion.
