The revolution was to get out from under monarch rule (King George).  The new country was concerned about one person getting too much power like a king in this country.  The check and balances spreads the power throughout the 3 branches of government so there needs to be agreements and people are checked before they become like kings.   Both federalists and non saw this as a good way to avoid this.
