How does independent assortment during Metaphase 1 help produce diversity in gametes (eggs and sperm)?

Biology

Answer:

a. There are different possible ways that homologous pairs might line up

c. Different alignments of homologous pairs will cause different combinations of alleles in gametes.

Explanation:

The law of independent assortment, proposed by Mendel, states that the alleles of one gene segregate into gametes independently of the alleles of another gene. This means that the segregation of one gene does not affect another. This law of independent assortment is evident during gamete formation in sexually-reproducing organisms know as meiosis. Specifically, in the Metaphase 1 stage of meiosis 1, homologous chromosomes (similar but non-identical chromosomes received from each parent) lines up at the metaphase plate (cell equator).

The lining up of chromosomes in this stage occurs randomly making it possible for chromosomes to align in different possible ways. The way/manner the chromosomes align at the equator determines which chromosome combination gets separated into which gamete. The homologous chromosomes are randomly distributed at the cell's equator before segregates into gametes. This random orientation enables the alleles of each gene on a chromosome to combine in different random ways, hence, allowing genetic diversity in the resulting gametes (sperm and egg) they get segregated into.

List 3 possible futures for the universe
Marina86 [1]

1 possible future is The Big Crunch. This theory assumes that the average density of the universe will be enough to stop its expansion and begin contracting.

2. Some theorists state that the expansion of the universe will go on forever, and if that happens, the universe will cool as it expands, and then it will become too cool to sustain life.

3. The Big Rip. The universe may keep expanding, as I mentioned before. But as it expands, the gravity may not be able to hold all the planets together, as it is now. Galaxies would tear apart first, followed by smaller black holes, planets and stars. Eventually, space would start expanding faster than the speed of light, and atoms would start breaking down into super small particles and everything would fall into nothing.

The resulting compounds of glycolysis can undergo other ____________ to produce more atp in the cell.
Gnom [1K]

The resulting compounds of glycolysis can undergo other Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to produce more ATP in the cell.

What is glycolysis?

Glycolysis is a process in which glucose is partially broken down by cells in enzyme reactions that do not need oxygen.

Glycolysis is one method that cells use to produce energy.

Resulting compounds of glycolysis

During glycolysis, glucose ultimately breaks down into pyruvate and energy.

Thus, the resulting compounds of glycolysis can undergo other Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to produce more ATP in the cell.
