Artificial selection is also known as selective breeding in which organism which is having desirable traits are selected from the wild type and allowed to cross to produce offspring having desired traits. Then these offsprings are interbred to produce more offsprings until all the offsprings contain the desired trait.

So artificial selection triggers the evolution of species by selecting a particular trait in the population but one of the side effect is that the genetic variation decreases in artificial selection because of inbreeding which deletes many traits that is present in wild type.
