A local mattress manufacturer wants to know if its manufacturing process is in or out of control and has hired you, a statistics

expert in the field, to analyze its process. Specifically, the business has run 20 random samples of size 5 over the past month and has determined the mean of each sample.
a. Determine the estimate of the mean when the process is in control.
b. Assuming the process standard deviation is .50 and the mean of the process is the estimate calculated in part a, determine the Upper Control Limit (UCL) and the Lower Control Limit (LCL) for the manufacturing process.
c. Explain the results to the vice-president of the mattress manufacturer focusing on whether, based on the results, the process is in or out of control.

Answer:

Answer to question a = 95.4

Answer to question b = UCL = 96.07

LCL = 94.73

Answer to question c = Process is still in control

Step-by-step explanation:

a. The computation of estimate mean is as shown below:-

= 95.4

b. The computation of Upper Control Limit (UCL) and the Lower Control Limit (LCL) for the manufacturing process is shown below:-

= 95.4 + 0.67082

= 96.07

= 95.4 - 0.67082

= 94.73

c. The explanation is shown below:-

From the above calculation we can see that the sample lies between LCL AND UCL that is (94.73 ,96.07) ,

The Process is still in control

2. Jaclyn estimates the square root of 50 in the following way:
Oksanka [162]

Answer:

(B) 7.1 is the estimated square  root of 50

Step-by-step explanation:

A. √50 =  √2 √25

= 5√2.

Jaclyn did not take the square root of 2.

B. We estimate the square root of 2.

Trial and improvement:

It must lie between 1 and 2 so we try 1.5:

1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25

Its  < 1.5 so try 1.4

1.4 * 1.4 = 1.96.

So it is a little above 1.4.

Try 1.45:

1.45 * 1.45

     1.45

  *  1.45

       -------

            725

          5800

         14500

       2.1025

= 2.1025.

- this is above 2 so the answer is between 1.40 and 1.45 but closer to 1.4.

A good estimate is 1.42

So the square root of 50 is about 5*1.42 = 7.1

In the triangle below, the sine of xº is 0.6. What is the sine of y
PilotLPTM [1.2K]

Answer:

The answer is "\sin x=0.6"

Step-by-step explanation:

Please find the attached file of the graph.

Given:

\to \sin x = 0.6\\\\\to x+y+90=180^{\circ} \\\\\to x+y=90^{\circ} \\\\\to y=90-x\\\\

Let

\to \cos y= \cos(90-x) =\sin x=0.6

Which of the quadratic functions has the narrowest graph?
topjm [15]

A quadratic function's graph being wide or narrow is determined or depended on a-term:

\large{y = a {x}^{2}  + bx + c}

If |a| has a lot of value, for example a = 2 or a = 100. The graph will get narrower if increasing the value of |a|. On the other hand, If |a| has small value, for example a = 1/2 or a = 1/10000. The graph would be wide.

Also it does not matter if a-term is negative or not since a-term being positive or negative determines if a parabola is upward or downward. Only |a| determines how narrow/wide the graph is.

From the question, it is clear that the parabola y = 2x^2 is the narrowest graph since it has the highest |a| value out of all choices.

Answer

  • y = 2x^2
