1) Answer is: A triple bond, because they overlap orbitals to share three pairs of electrons.

Nitrogen (N) is in group 15 of Periodic table of elements and his atomic number is seven, which means that nitrogen has seven electrons and electron configuration: ₇N 1s²2s²2p³.

Nitrogen is inert (low reactivity) nonmetal and has five valence electrons. Nitrogen has oxidation numbers from -3 to +5.

Nitrogen molecule (N₂) has strong nonpolar triple covalent bond (:N:::N:), that is why it is very stable and have low reactivity.

In molecule of nitrogen (N₂), bond order is 3 , because there are three pair of electrons (6 electrons) between nitrogen atoms.

2) Answer is: It is the sharing of electrons by overlapping orbitals.

For example, in molecule of ammonia NH₃, three sp3 orbitals of nitrogen atom overlaps with 1s of three hydrogen atoms and form three sigma covalnt bonds.

Electron configuration for nitrogen: ₇N 1s² 2s² 2p³.

Electron configuration for hydrogen: ₁H 1s¹.

The central atom in ammonia, nitrogen, is sp3 hybridized (one s and three p-orbitals will combine for a four sp3 hybridized orbitals), because sp3 orbitals have lower energy.

3) Answer is: True.

Covalent bond is bond between nonmetals.

For example, molecule carbon monoxide CO has covalnet bond.

Carbon (C) and oxygen (O) are nonmetals.

Carbon atom and oxygen atom are connected by a triple bond (six shared electrons in three bonding molecular orbitals) that is formed of two covalent bonds and one dative covalent bond.

Dative covalent bond is formed by two electrons derive from the oxygen atom.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, toxic and tasteless gas.

4) Answer is: Only Student A.

When determining the best Lewis structure for a molecule, the structure is chosen such that the formal charge (FC) on each of the atoms is as close to zero as possible.

Formal charge (FC) estimates the distribution of electric charge in a molecule.

The formal charge of any atom in a molecule can be calculated with the equation: FC=V-N-B/2.

V is the number of valence electrons of the neutral atom in ground state.

N is the number of non-bonding valence electrons on atom in the molecule.

B is the total number of electrons shared in bonds with other atoms in the molecule.

Oxygen atom has two non-nonding pair of electrons and two valence electrons shared in bonds.

The bond bewteen oxygen anf hydrogen is poalr sigma covalent bond.

5) Answer is: True.

In chemical compound CH₂O there is two single bonds bonds between carbon atom and hydrogen atoms and one double bond between carbon atom and oxygen atom.

Both carbon and oxygen have sp2 hybridization in this carbonyl group.

Carbon has three sigma bonds with sp2 orbitals and oxygen has one sigma bond with sp2 and two free electron pairs with sp2 orbitals.

Pi bonds are formed between two p orbitals.

6) Answer is: Compound D is covalent because both atoms are in need of electrons.

Atom is most stable when it has full filled electron shell with electromns like closest noble gas.

Atoms in combound D need electrons, first atom two and second atom three electrons, to form stable electron configuration as closest noble gas, so they share electrons.

Compound C is probably ionic compound.

1) Atomic number of N = 7

Valence electron configuration = 2s²2p⁵

Thus when 2 N atoms combine, they share 3 pairs of electrons (i.e. 3 from each N atom) and form a triple bond

Ans D)

2) A covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electrons between by overlapping orbitals.

3) True

In general a covalent bond is formed when two atoms share a pair of electrons. Thus, 3 covalent bonds involve a mutual sharing of 3 pairs of electrons.

4) A Lewis dot structure is a representation of the electron arrangement around atoms in a molecule

A water molecule has 2 H atoms and 1 O atom

Each O atom is surrounded by 6 electrons such that a pair of electrons are involved in bonding with the 2 H atoms. This leaves the O atom with 2 lone pairs of electron

Student A has the correct lewis diagram

5) True

In HCHO, there is 1 double bond between C and O and 2 single bonds between C and H

6) In Compound D both atoms are in need of electrons which can be shared mutually.

Ans B) Compound D is covalent beacuse both atos are in need of electrons

The average propane cylinder for a residential grill holds approximately 18 kg of propane. how much energy (in kj) is released b
Angelina_Jolie [31]
Let's begin with the basic values that will be used in the solution.

The formula of propane is C3H8. It is an alkane, a hydrocarbon with the general formula of CnH2n+2. Notice that hydrocarbons have only Carbon and Hydrogen atoms. Its molar mass (M) is 44 g.

Molar Mass Calculation is done as like that
C=12 g/mol, H=1 g/mol. 1 mole propane has 3 moles Carbon atoms and 8 mole Hydrogen atoms. M(
C3H8)= 3*12+ 8*1= 44 g

Combustion reaction of hydrocarbons gives carbon dioxide and water by releasing energy. That energy is called as enthalpy of combustion (
ΔHc°).

ΔHc° of propane equals -2202.0 kj/mol. Burning of 1 mole C3H8 releases 2202 kj energy. Minus sign only indicates that the energy is given out ( an exothermic reaction ).

Let's write the combustion reaction.
C3H8 + O2 ---> CO2 + H20 (unbalanced)
ΔHc° = -2202 kj/mol

Now, we calculate mole of 20 kg propane. Convert kilogram into gram since we use molar mass is defined in grams.
mole=mass/molar mass ; n=m/M ; n= 20000 g /44 (g/mol)=454 mole

1 mole propane releases 2202 kj energy.
454 mole propane release 2202 kj *454= 1000909 kj

The answer is 1000909 kj.

Calculate the molarity of sodium ion in a solution made
Arada [10]

Answer:

0.1035 M

Explanation:

Considering:

Molarity=\frac{Moles\ of\ solute}{Volume\ of\ the\ solution}

Moles =Molarity \times {Volume\ of\ the\ solution}

Sodium chloride will furnish Sodium ions as:

NaCl\rightarrow Na^{+}+Cl^-

Given :

For Sodium chloride :

Molarity = 0.288 M

Volume = 3.58 mL

The conversion of mL to L is shown below:

1 mL = 10⁻³ L

Thus, volume = 3.58×10⁻³ L

Thus, moles of Sodium furnished by Sodium chloride is same the moles of Sodium chloride as shown below:

Moles =0.288 \times {3.58\times 10^{-3}}\ moles

Moles of sodium ions by sodium chloride = 0.00103104 moles

Sodium sulfate will furnish Sodium ions as:

Na_2SO_4\rightarrow 2Na^{+}+SO_4^{2-}

Given :

For Sodium sulfate :

Molarity = 0.001 M

Volume = 6.51 mL

The conversion of mL to L is shown below:

1 mL = 10⁻³ L

Thus, volume = 6.51 ×10⁻³ L

Thus, moles of Sodium furnished by Sodium sulfate is twice the moles of Sodium sulfate as shown below:

Moles =2\times 0.001 \times {6.51\times 10^{-3}}\ moles

Moles of sodium ions by Sodium sulfate = 0.00001302 moles

Total moles = 0.00103104 moles + 0.00001302 moles = 0.00104406 moles

Total volume = 3.58 ×10⁻³ L + 6.51 ×10⁻³ L = 10.09 ×10⁻³ L

Concentration of sodium ions is:

Molarity=\frac{Moles\ of\ solute}{Volume\ of\ the\ solution}

Molarity_{Na^+}=\frac{0.00104406}{10.09\times 10^{-3}}

The final concentration of sodium anion = 0.1035 M
