In week 3 the two athletes concentrate on biking. Minh's goal is to bike 125 1/2 miles. At the end of the week he found that he

actually biked 125 1/6 miles. PJ's Goal was to bike 120 1/4 miles. At the end of the week he found that he actually biked 120 miles. Which athlete was closer to making their goal? Explain

MINH:
subtract what was actually biked from his goal

= 125 1/2 - 125 1/6
convert to like denominators

= 125 3/6 - 125 1/6

= 2/6
simplify

= 1/3 or 0.3333333

PJ:
= 120 1/4 - 120

= 1/4 or 0.25

ANSWER: PJ came closer to his goal because 1/4 (or 0.25) is closer to zero which makes it a smaller number than 1/3 (or 0.33).

Hope this helps!  :)

PJ was closer because he was .25 away from his goal and Minh was .16666 away from his goal.

Hey guys! Does anybody know the answer to tan2x-2cosx=0
Basile [38]

If the equation is tan(2<em>x</em>) - 2 cos(<em>x</em>) = 0:

We have

tan(2<em>x</em>) = sin(2<em>x</em>) / cos(2<em>x</em>)

sin(2<em>x</em>) = 2 sin(<em>x</em>) cos(<em>x</em>)

So, rewriting the equation gives

tan(2<em>x</em>) - 2 cos(<em>x</em>) = 0

2 sin(<em>x</em>) cos(<em>x</em>) / cos(2<em>x</em>) - 2 cos(<em>x</em>) cos(2<em>x</em>) / cos(2<em>x</em>)= 0

2 cos(<em>x</em>) • (sin(<em>x</em>) - cos(2<em>x</em>)) / cos(2<em>x</em>) = 0

The left side is 0 whenever the numerator is 0:

2 cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   sin(<em>x</em>) - cos(2<em>x</em>) = 0

cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   sin(<em>x</em>) - (1 - 2 sin²(<em>x</em>)) = 0

cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   2 sin²(<em>x</em>) + sin(<em>x</em>) - 1 = 0

cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   (2 sin(<em>x</em>) - 1) (sin(<em>x</em>) + 1) = 0

cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   2 sin(<em>x</em>) - 1 = 0   or   sin(<em>x</em>) + 1 = 0

cos(<em>x</em>) = 0   or   sin(<em>x</em>) = 1/2   or   sin(<em>x</em>) = -1

Solving each case gives 3 families of solutions:

[<em>x</em> = <em>π</em>/2 + 2<em>nπ</em>   or   <em>x</em> = -<em>π</em>/2 + 2<em>nπ</em>]   or

[<em>x</em> = <em>π</em>/6 + 2<em>nπ</em>   or   <em>x</em> = 5<em>π</em>/6 + 2<em>nπ</em>]   or

[<em>x</em> = -<em>π</em>/2 + 2<em>nπ</em>]

where <em>n</em> is any integer. The last family is already accounted for in the first, so

<em>x</em> = <em>π</em>/2 + 2<em>nπ</em>   or   <em>x</em> = -<em>π</em>/2 + 2<em>nπ</em>   or   <em>x</em> = <em>π</em>/6 + 2<em>nπ</em>   or   <em>x</em> = 5<em>π</em>/6 + 2<em>nπ</em>

Sin(x)= --0.7 <br> solve in degrees
Rzqust [24]

If \sin x=-(-0.7) then x=\arcsin(0.7)\approx\boxed{44.427^{\circ}}.

Hope this helps.

Complete the square to determine the minimum or maximum value of the function defined by the expression. x2 − 10x + 15
Sphinxa [80]

Answer:

  • minimum: -10

Step-by-step explanation:

Add and subtract the square of half the x-coefficient:

  x² -10x +(-5)² -(-5)² +15

Express the first three terms as a square; simplify the remaining terms.

  (x -5)² -10

This expression describes a parabola that opens upward and has its vertex at (x, y) = (5, -10). The minimum value is -10.
