Answer:

The best answer to the question: Which of the following statements is true about taste bud preferences, would be: A) Taste buds respond exclusively to a certain taste sensation, like saltiness.

Explanation:

Taste buds are basically the end points made out of epithelial cells where sensory nerves, and other nerves, lie in the tongue. One of their purposes is to identify not just specific tastes, but also textures, of things that are placed in the mouth. If you take a look at how taste buds are distributed in the mouth, there are regions in the tongue for each of the four types of taste: sour, sweet, salty and bitter. Whenever food enters the mouth, and depending on its composition, each of the regions of the tongue, where each of the specific taste buds are located, will be activated depending on whether a specific taste is present or not. Each of these specific buds will then rely the information to the brain where all the information will be put together and interpreted. This whole group of information will also require smell, and the sense of touch. That is how we know not only that we tasting something salty, sweet, acidic, or bitter, but also what the texture and smell is. But taste buds do have specific preferences for tastes.
