Explanation:

Momentum is mass times velocity.

p = mv

a) Before the bullet is shot, it has zero velocity.  So p = 0 kg m/s.

b) Before the bullet is shot, the rifle has zero velocity.  So p = 0 kg m/s.

c) The total momentum is therefore 0 + 0 = 0 kg m/s.

d) If m = 5 g = 0.005 kg, and v = 100 m/s, then:

p = (0.005 kg) (100 m/s) = 0.5 kg m/s

e) Momentum is conserved, so the total momentum before the bullet is shot equals the total momentum after the bullet is shot.

p = 0 kg m/s

f) Since the total momentum is 0:

0 kg m/s = 0.5 kg m/s + p

p = -0.5 kg m/s

g) If M = 995 g = 0.995 kg:

-0.5 kg m/s = (0.995 kg) vr

vr ≈ -0.503 m/s

If your mass is 65 kg on earth, what would your mass be on the moon?
LuckyWell [14K]
"Mass" is the amount of matter that makes up your body. It doesn't depend on where you happen to be, any more than the amount of money in your pocket depends on where you are. If your mass is 65 kg in your kitchen, then it's 65 kg. Doesn't matter whether you're in the basement, in school, at the bottom of the ocean, in Mexico, in China, anywhere else on Earth, anywhere on the moon, or floating in space.

Average speed  =  (total distance)  /  (total time to cover the distance)

                             =  (15 km + 33 km)  /  (1 hr + 2 hrs)

                             =      (48 km)          /    (3 hrs)

                             =                    (48/3)    km/hr

An automobile with a mass of 1232 kg accelerates at a rate of 2 m/s² in the forward direction. What is the net force acting on t
boyakko [2]
Based on Newton's second law:
Force = mass x acceleration

For this problem: we have the mass = 1232 kg and the acceleration = 2 m/s^2
So, just substitute with the givens in the above equation to calculate the force as follows:
Force = 1232 x 2 = 2464 Newtons
