In an old story, a man puts 2 grains of rice on the first space of a chess board. He puts 4 grains on the second space, 8 grains

on the third space, and so on. Write and evaluate an expression with exponents to find how many grains of rice the man puts on the tenth space.

GEOMETRIC PROGRESSIONS

Heya !

In the story we got to know that the man put 2 grains of rice in first space of a chess board ,

4 grains on the second space of chess board

And 8 on the 3rd one and so on ,

So on noticing carefully , we see a Geometric Progression formed here ,

With first term a = 2
and common difference = 2

Now , we have to find the number of grains on the old man puts on the 10th space ,

I.e we have to find the 10th term of the given Geometric Progression ,

T10 = a {r}^{9} \\ T10= 2 \times {2}^{9} \\ \\ T10= {2}^{10} = 1024 \: \: \: \: \: \: \: Ans.

We know that
a1----------> <span>grains of rice in the first square
a1=2
n------------> space ubication
the expressions  is
 an=a1</span>^n----------> an=2<span>^n

for the </span><span>the tenth space  n=10
</span>an=2^10---------> an=1024 grains of rice

the answer is
1024 grains of rice

Check the picture below.

\bf 0=AB^2+6AB-121\implies \stackrel{\textit{using the quadratic formula}}{AB=\cfrac{-6 \pm \sqrt{6^2-4(1)(-121)}}{2(1)}}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;AB=\cfrac{-6 \pm \sqrt{520}}{2}\implies AB=\cfrac{-6 \pm \sqrt{4\cdot 130}}{2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;AB=\cfrac{-6 \pm \sqrt{2^2\cdot 130}}{2}\implies AB=\cfrac{-6 \pm 2\sqrt{130}}{2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;AB=-3\pm\sqrt{130}\implies AB=&#10;\begin{cases}&#10;\boxed{-3+\sqrt{130}}\\\\&#10;-3-\sqrt{130}&#10;\end{cases}

since the distance AB cannot be a negative value, thus is not -3-√(130).

Shades R Us charges $20 per day to rent a lounge chair and $15 per day to rent an umbrella. Dan and Lisa paid a total of $245 to
goblinko [34]

Answer:

$151.88 costs to Dan algebraic form

$245/2 = $122.50+20+15 = 157.5 is the answer though.

Step-by-step explanation:

35x+20(x-1)

35x + (20x -1)

35x +20x -1

35x -20x-20

x= 53/11

53/11 = 4.81

4.81 x 20 = $96.20 on chairs

4.81 x 15 = 72.15 on umbrella

96+72 = 168.35

245-168.35 = 76.65

76.65 + 20 = 96.65

Because we subtracted to get 168.35 we have the difference of $15 which is the difference of what he and she paid we half this amount = $7.50 half the 0.45 additional found on Dans $96.65 = $0.22 and find $7.72 balance to add to his 96.20

Added together his costs out of 245 was $104.37+ 76.65 = $181.20

Costs of umbrella = 76.65/2 = 39.325

181.20 -29.325=151.87 rounded up to 151.87

As x = 53/11 the decimal of this is 4.81 = x

Bumek [7]
Let's say that Stan invested $1500 at 6%.  To find how much he invested at 4.5% would be 5000 - 1500 = $3500.  Now we have a pattern.  Now let's say stan invested x dollars. Even though it is unknown, we can set up how much is left.  So subtract x from 5000 or 5000 - x which is C
