Carbon dioxide is heavier than oxygen gas. It therefore displaces the oxygen gas around a flame. Without oxygen, the combustion reaction will stop and the flame will be put out.

Further Explanation:

In order for a combustion reaction to happen, three components must be present: fuel, oxygen, and heat to cause ignition. When one of these three is removed, the combustion reaction will stop.

CO2 fire extinguishers use the difference in mass of the CO2 and oxygen molecules to stop the fire. Since CO2 is heavier, it will displace any oxygen molecules that are around the flame. When this happens, the supply of the oxygen will be limited or cut-off and the fire will eventually be put out because of the lack of oxygen. This ability to displace oxygen is also what makes using CO2 as fire extinguisher quite dangerous for the user since it pushes away the oxygen that is needed for respiration.

Other ways to put out fire include spraying liquids that absorb the heat to avoid spreading the fire further or spraying substances that coat the fuel (flammable materials) to avoid contact with oxygen gas which can lead to further combustion.

There are two kinds of behavior that all organisms are capable of doing. If Inez blinks her eyes because a gnat flies close to t
Kryger [21]

Answer:

involuntary; voluntary

Explanation:

Involuntary behaviors in organisms are unlearned behaviors exhibited as a reflex response to a stimuli around their environment. They are usually unconscious behaviors. On the other hand, voluntary behaviors are deliberate behaviors exhibited by an organism consciously. They are actually under the control of the organism, and can be learned.

If Inez blinks her eyes because a gnat flies close to them, that's involuntary. But if she then swats at the gnat, that's voluntary.

The cytoplasm divides during this segment of mitosis _____.
-BARSIC- [3]

Answer:

The correct option is D) cytokinesis

Explanation:

Mitosis can be described as a process in a cell replicates to form two identical copies of itself.

Cytokinesis can be described as the last stage of cell division for both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. During this stage, the cytoplasm eventually divides and the cell splits into two with equal portions of cytoplasm in each side. Although the mechanism of cytokinesis is different for both plants and animals yet it is the final stage for both the cell type in which the cytoplasm splits.
