Since only 1/10 of her income applies to all 5 charities, it would make sense to assume that 1/10 is strictly donated to the charities. Moreover, because we assume that, we must then divide 1/10 by 5, so that way we can get the amount that is donated to each charity. So you should get, 1/50 is equally donated to each charity out of the 1/10 of her income that is donated. Hopefully this helps.

Answer:

Given

 • ΔTQR is right
 • QS is altitude
 • ΔRSQ and ΔTSQ also right
 • m∠TQS = 42°, RS = 26 cm

∠RQS and ∠TQS are complementary with ∠TQS, so are 48°

a)

 • ∠QRS is the another one with 42°

b)

Find QS first

 • 26/QS = tan 48°
 • QS = 26 / tan 48° = 23.4

Find QT next

 • QS/QT = cos 42°
 • QT = QS / cos 42° = 23.4 / cos 42° = 31.5 (rounded)
