Remark

You need only set up a proportion

Use the given first. Then let x = the number of drops.

1 drop / (1/6 dash) = x / (2/3 dash)

Rather than try and figure out what the fractions are going to do, why not change everything to decimals?

1/0.16666667 = x /0.6666667          multiply both sides by 0.6666667

1 * 0.6666667 / 0.16666667 = x

x = 4. That's the answer you would get if you kept the fractions. But decimals are much easier to handle in cases like this than are fractions.

If you want this in terms of genenerally how many drops would there be then

y = (1/6)*x <<< Answer

Where y is the number of dashes and x is the number of drops.

Simplifying 8x + 336 = 336 + -3x Reorder the terms: 336 + 8x = 336 + -3x Add '-336' to each side of the equation. 336 + -336 + 8x = 336 + -336 + -3x Combine like terms: 336 + -336 = 0 0 + 8x = 336 + -336 + -3x 8x = 336 + -336 + -3x Combine like terms: 336 + -336 = 0 8x = 0 + -3x 8x = -3x Solving 8x = -3x Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '3x' to each side of the equation. 8x + 3x = -3x + 3x Combine like terms: 8x + 3x = 11x 11x = -3x + 3x Combine like terms: -3x + 3x = 0 11x = 0 Divide each side by '11'. x = 0 Simplifying x = 0

A total of 714 tickets were sold for the school play. They were either adult tickets or student tickets. There were 64 more
VladimirAG [237]

Answer:

714 is the total number that is sold, if there is 64 more tickets sold for students then adults, then do 714 divided by 2 and add 32 to get the number for students, and for adults do 714 divided by 2 and subtract by 32. so, like this 714/2+32=389 tickets for students and 714/2-32=325 for adults. Hope this helps
