Which pair shows equivalent expressions?
DENIUS [597]

2(\frac{2}{5}x + 4) =  \frac{4}{5}x + 4 which is the second option is the equivalent expression.

Explanation:

First,  we need to calculate the value of two-fifths of x. It means 2 portions out of the five portions of x which equates to \frac{2}{5}x.

Now we calculate the values of the two expresssions on the LHS.

1) 2 (two-fifths x + 2) = 2 (\frac{2}{5}x + 2) = \frac{4}{5}x + 4.

2)  (two-fifths x + 4) = 2(\frac{2}{5}x + 4) =  \frac{4}{5}x + 8.

Now we determine values of the four expressions on the RHS.

1) Two and two-fifths x + 1 = 2\frac{2}{5}x + 1

2) Four-fifths x + 4 = \frac{4}{5}x + 4

3) Four-fifths x + 2 = \frac{4}{5}x + 2

4) Two and two-fifths x + 8 = 2\frac{2}{5}x + 8.

Out of the various LHS and RHS values, the 1^{st} LHS value and 2^{nd} RHS value is the same. So option 2 is the answer.

What is the equation of the line, in point-slope form, that goes through (-2,-1) and is perpendicular to y=5x+3?
Lemur [1.5K]

The correct answer is B. y + 1 = -1/5 (x + 2)

I got B by putting the numbers in point-slope form which is y - y1 = m ( x - x1 ) so I got:     y + 1 = m ( x + 2 )

Then to find m(the slope) I knew if the slope was 5 it would be parallel to y=5x+3 so therefore -1/5 would be perpendicular to the line y=5x=3.

Hope that helps!!

Franklin deposits $3500 in an account that earns 3.5% interest compounded annually. Which function equation represents the balan
Nikolay [14]
Hello! 3.5% in decimal form is 0.035. You add 1 to that to get 1.035. B is out, because that number is too high. A is out, because it doesn't add 1. The formula for compound interest is P(1 + r)^t. D is also out, because it incorrectly interprets 3.5% in decimal form. The correct form is 3,500(1.035)^t. The only one that shows this is C.  Therefore, the answer is C.
