Hi, here's some differences between unfertilized and fertilized eggs.

A fertilized egg is only formed when the fusion of a haploid female gamete mates with a male haploid gamete.

A Unfertilized egg hasn't been touched by a male gamete.

Fertilization happens to form the fertilized egg

Unfertilized egg doesn't have to undergo fertilization to be formed

A fertilized egg is always developed into a diploid organism

A unfertilized egg can sometimes produce a haploid organism

Fertilized eggs are formed during the sexual reproduction

Asexual production forms offspring for unfertilized eggs.

Hope this was helpful, let me know if you need more help :)

Since the small population is, well, smaller, it's clear enough to see that the genetic variation among that population won't be as prevalent as it will in the larger population. The larger population simply has more genes to choose from, of course.
