• The desert and tundra are alike because they both have limited available water.
 • The tundra biomes are characterized by very low temperatures due to which the ground is permanently covered by a layer of ice and this is known permafrost.
 • The desert biomes are characterized by a very low average rainfall of less than 25 cm per year and they have a hot and dry climate.
 • Both Tundra and desert biomes have water scarcity as the in the tundra the permafrost does not allow the water to percolate into the ground and in the desert, the amount of rainfall is very less.

Anna007 [38]

Answer:

Blood Brain Barrier(BBB)

Explanation:

This is a biological interface of special endothelial cells of astrocytes, pericytes , capillaries, neurons and other structures, acting as a physical barrier or gate separating the Central Nervous system from the peripheral blood circulations. Thus it formed a tight junction serving as a physical barrier to selectively regulate the entrance of substances from the cerebral blood flow into the brain, therefore maintaining homeostasis of the brain.

From above any substances absorbed into the blood stream irrespective of the mode of entry are transported through the BBB, and are selectively regulated to enter the brain cells by the BBB's interactions with the blood vessels, hormones etc.

Basically it allows the passage of nutrients, a few drug, hormones and resists certain toxins and pathogens for the brain homeostasis.

jek_recluse [69]

Answer:

This suggests that the moustache is a releaser for aggression.

Explanation:

Fixed action patterns are instinctive programmed responses in different species that are triggered by a specific external sensory stimulus. These stimuli are called sign stimuli or releaser. When the sign occurs, the animal starts a sequence of acts in response to the stimulus and continuous until the series of actions is completed.

The black feathers resembling a mustache in a Northern flickers male are an external sensory stimulus. This trait that can provoke another male to respond aggressively, as a fixed action pattern.

This trait might be considered as an unconditioned stimulus, which provokes an unlearned or reflex reaction. These aggressive responses are triggered by reflex.
