An open box is to be made from a square piece of material with a side length of 10 inches by cutting equal squares from the corn

When you cut off for squares of x side length, the area of the base of the box is [10 - 2x]^2 and the height ot the box is x, then the volumen of the box is:

(10 - 2x)^2 * x = 48

(100 - 40x + 4x^2)*x = 48

100x - 40x^2 + 4x^3 = 48

4x^3 - 40x^2 + 100x - 48 = 0

x^3 - 10x^2 + 25x - 12 = 0

Using Ruffini you can get 3 as a solutio:

3^3 - 10(3^2) + 25(3) - 12 = 27 - 90 + 75 - 12 = 0

Factoring  you get (x - 3) (x^2 -7x + 4) = 0

Then,  you can apply the quadratic formula to  x^2 -7x + 4 to find the other two roots.

They are x = 0.6277 and x = 6.3723.

x = 6.32723 is not valid because 10 - 2x < 0.

Then there are two real solutcions for the side of the squate: 3 and 0.6277  (althoug the second one is a very low box)

In 2008, the world record for swimming the 50 meter freestyle event was 21.34 seconds. Supposing the athlete swam at a constant
grin007 [14]

Answer:

2.34m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

says that he swim a distance of 50 meters in 21.34 seconds

21.34s = 50m

if we want to know how much it travels in 1 second we would have to divide by the amount of seconds both parts

21.34s = 50m

21.34s/21.34 = 50m/21.34

1s = 2.343m

if in 1 second it makes a distance of 2.343 meters this means that its speed is 2.343 meters over seconds (m/s)

we have to round to the nearest hundredth so that instead of 2.343m/s it would be 2.34m/s

Using the equation 4x^3-6x^2-144x+8, find the function values f(-3) and f(-4) at the interval {-4,5}
Leto [7]

Answer: f(-3) = 278, f(-4) = 232

Step-by-step explanation:

f(x) = 4x³ - 6x² - 144x + 8

f(-3) = 4(-3)³ - 6(-3)² - 144(-3) + 8

f(-3) = 4(-27) - 6(9) - 144(-3) + 8

f(-3) = 278

f(-4) = 4(-4)³ - 6(-4)² - 144(-4) + 8

f(-4) = 4(-64) - 6(16) - 144(-4) + 8

f(-4) = 232
