For every 5 she misses 3.. this is a proportion that can be set up as
5/3 = x/24

Steps:
1) cross multiple 5 (that she makes) times the 24 (that she missed.

2) cross multiply the 3 (that she misses) times the missing value.
Giving you 3x=5(24)

3) Solve 5(24)= 120 so that:

120=3x
4) Divide 120 by 3 to solve for x
5) X= 40

Answer:

40

Step-by-step explanation:

Use the ratio 5:3 to answer the question.

5 = made free throws

3 = missed free throws

If she misses 24 free throws, compare the ratios 5:3 to x:24 (you are solving for x)

24 divided by 3 is 8, so multiply 5 by 8

You would get 40

Value of P: 3/15(p+10)=-15
ArbitrLikvidat [17]
Step  1  : 1 Simplify — 5 Equation at the end of step  1  : 1 (— • (p + 10)) - -15 = 0 5 Step  2  :Equation at the end of step  2  : (p + 10) ———————— - -15 = 0 5 Step  3  :Rewriting the whole as an Equivalent Fraction :

3.1   Subtracting a whole from a fraction

Rewrite the whole as a fraction using 5 as the denominator :

-15 -15 • 5 -15 = ——— = ——————— 1 5

Equivalent fraction : The fraction thus generated looks different but has the same value as the whole

Common denominator : The equivalent fraction and the other fraction involved in the calculation share the same denominator

Adding fractions that have a common denominator :

3.2 Adding up the two equivalent fractions
Add the two equivalent fractions which now have a common denominator

Combine the numerators together, put the sum or difference over the common denominator then reduce to lowest terms if possible:

(p+10) - (-15 • 5) p + 85 —————————————————— = —————— 5 5 Equation at the end of step  3  : p + 85 —————— = 0 5 Step  4  :When a fraction equals zero : 4.1    When a fraction equals zero ...

Where a fraction equals zero, its numerator, the part which is above the fraction line, must equal zero.

Now,to get rid of the denominator, Tiger multiplys both sides of the equation by the denominator.

Here's how:

p+85 ———— • 5 = 0 • 5 5

Now, on the left hand side, the 5 cancels out the denominator, while, on the right hand side, zero times anything is still zero.

The equation now takes the shape :
   p+85  = 0

Solving a Single Variable Equation :

4.2      Solve  :    p+85 = 0

Subtract 85 from both sides of the equation :
                      p = -85

One solution was found :                   p = -85
