The energy of a non-covalent interaction is dependent on their range. Organize the following types of non-covalent interactions

from longest range to shortest range interactions
1. Van deer Waals interaction (dispersion force)
2. Charge-charge interaction
3. Dipole-induced dipole interaction
4. Dipole-dipole interaction

Answer:

From longest to shortest range: Charge-charge interaction ⇒Dipole-dipole interaction ⇒ Dipole- induced dipole interaction ⇒ Van der Waals interaction (dispersion force).

Explanation:

There are different types of intermolecular forces, between them:

1) Charge-charge interaction are electrostactic interaction between charged particles or molecules. This type of interaction is very strong and can extend over greater distances than other kinds of interactions.

2) Dipole-Dipole interactions take place between polar molecules, it means molecules that have partial positive and negative charges and they aproximate each other because of this positive and negative poles.

3) Dipole-induced dipole interaction happens when a polar molecule or ion aproximates to a non-polar molecule. As a result partial charges (positives and negatives) appear in the non-polar molecule. The distance between the polar and non-polar molecule to cause the induced dipole needs to be short.

4) Van der Waals interaction (dispersion force) appear as a result of temporal dipoles. This type of interaction is relatively weak. The distance between induced dipoles is short.

Which of the following is an oxidation-reduction reaction? ZnS(s) + 2O2(g) ZnSO4(s) CaO(s) + H2O(l) Ca(OH)2(s) 6Li2O(s) + P4O10(
Lelechka [254]

ZnS(s) + 2O₂(g) ⇒ZnSO₄(s)

Further explanation

The oxidation-reduction reaction or abbreviated as Redox is a chemical reaction in which there is a change in oxidation number

Oxidation is an increase in oxidation number, while reduction is a decrease in oxidation number.

Reaction

ZnS(s) + 2O₂(g) ⇒ZnSO₄(s)

S²⁻ (-2 in ZnS) to S⁺⁶(+6 in ZnSO₄) ⇒ oxidation

O₂(0 in O₂) to O⁻²(-2 in ZnSO₄)⇒ reduction
