5^2 + 12^2 = 13^2

is the second or third Pythagorean triple on the list, which gives us the answer directly.

But if we didn't know that, let x be the short leg:

x^2 + (x+7)^2 = 13^2

2x^2 + 14 x + 49 - 169 = 0

x^2 + 7x  - 60 = 0

(x+12)(x-5)=0

Rejecting the negative root, x=5, other side 12, the Pythagorean triple we found.

The value in dollars,v(x),of a certain truck after x years is represented by the equation v(x)=32,500(0.92)^x.To the nearest dol
Vika [28.1K]

Answer: $2193

Step-by-step explanation:

v(x) = 32,500(.92)^{x}

Plug two and three in for x

v(2) = 32,500(.92)^{2}

v(2) = 32,500(.8464)

v(2) = 27,500

v(3) = 32,500(.92)^{3}

v(3) = 32,500(.778688)

v(3) = 25,307.36

Subtract v(3) from v(2)

27,500 - 25,307.36 = 2192.64

Round to the nearest dollar to get $2193

Equation- s=db-6, solve for d
Liono4ka [1.6K]

Answer:

d \:  =  \frac{s + 6}{b}

Step-by-step explanation:

s = db - 6

Isolate d

s + 6 = db

.

Divide both sides of the equation by b

\frac{s + 6}{b}  =  \frac{db}{b}

Simplify

\frac{s + 6}{b}  = d \\ d =  \frac{s + 6}{b}

A farmer is constructing a rectangular pen with one additional fence across its width. Find the maximum area that can be enclose
konstantin123 [22]

The maximum area of the pen is the highest area the pen can have

The maximum area is 16200 square yards

Let the dimension be x and y.

So, the perimeter is given as:

\mathbf{P = 360}

Because it has one additional fence, the perimeter is calculated as:

\mathbf{2x + y = 360}

Make y the subject

\mathbf{y = 360 - 2x}

The area is calculated as:

\mathbf{A = xy}

Substitute \mathbf{y = 360 - 2x}

\mathbf{A = x(360 -2x)}

Expand

\mathbf{A = 360x -2x^2}

Differentiate

\mathbf{A' = 360 -4x}

Set to 0

\mathbf{360 -4x = 0}

Rewrite as:

\mathbf{4x = 360}

Divide both sides by 4

\mathbf{x = 90}

Substitute 90 for x in \mathbf{A = 360x -2x^2}

\mathbf{A = 360 \times 90 - 2 \times 90^2}

\mathbf{A = 16200}

Hence, the maximum area is 16200 square yards

The formula for the sum of an infinite geometric series, s=a1/1-r, may be used to convert 0.23 to a fraction. What are the value
steposvetlana [31]

Given

The formula for the sum of an infinite geometric series

s =\frac{a1}{1-r}

used to convert 0.23 to a fraction

Find out  the values of a1 and r

To proof

As given in the question

The series is infinte geometric series

The  geometric is mostly in the form a , ar , ar² ,............

s = a + ar + ar² + ar³...........

Where  a = first term

         r = common ratio

The series is infinte geometric series i.e 0.2323...

thus it is written in the form

s  = 0.23 + 0.0023 + 0.000023 +...........

now written in the fraction form

we get

s = \frac{23}{100} +\frac{23}{10000}+\frac{23}{1000000} + .......

compare this series with the

s = a + ar + ar² + ar³...........

Thus

we get

a1 = \frac{23}{100}

a1 = 0.23

r = \frac{1}{100}

r = 0.01

Hence proved
