When the procedure says "condition the graduated cylinder with vinegar before using it", what does that mean?
vazorg [7]

Answer:

Rinse with vinegar solution several times.

Explanation:

The objective of conditioning equipment is that any impurities are removed before using the glassware in the experiment.

Another reason for conditioning is that any drops left in the glassware are from the intended solution and not water, that way the concentration will not change. However this is why washing thoroughly with soap and water would defeat the purpose of conditioning. It's possible to first wash with soap and water and then rinse with vinegar, but not viceversa.

Water is capable of dissolving a variety of different substances, which is why it is such a good solvent. it is often called the
Tema [17]

Water is often referred as a universal solvent because it is capable dissolving much more solutes as compared to any other solvent. This is because, water is a high polar molecule. In water, H has partial positive charge while O has partial negative charge.

Due to this, water favors dissociation of molecules into positively and negatively charged ions. Positively charge ions gets attracted towards oxygen i.e. negatively charges, while negatively charged ions get attracted towards positive end of water molecule.

However, it is worth nothing that, despite water being referred as universal solvent, many compounds are insoluble or partially soluble in water. For instance, most of the hydroxide displays poor solubility in water.

What happens to some of the electrons in an atom when the atom is heated
oksano4ka [1.4K]

Answer:

When the electrons in the atom are excited, for example by being heated, the additional energy pushes the electrons to higher energy orbitals. When the electrons fall back down and leave the excited state, energy is re-emitted in the form of a photon
