Answer:

Prions are infectious agents which are responsible for neurodegenerative diseases in animals. Prions cause the refolding of the alpha helical and coil forms of protein structure into beta sheets.

Explanation:

The alpha sheets and coil structures assume helical structures and therefore would give different physiological properties to protein. When they are converted into beta sheets, which are flat and parallel, the structure and function of the protein get altered.

The cellular form of the protein is sensitive to proteases whereas the misfolded protein is not affected by proteases. The misfolded form perpetuates itself by causing the newly synthesized normal form of protein to become degenerate.

Kuru was the first disease caused by prion in humans.,

Describe weight reducing adaptation of birds
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

Birds have a significant number of reduced muscles to help them reduce their weight. The most-developed muscles in birds are the flight muscles that they need to fly. The bones are mostly fused, reducing the need for muscles to hold the bones together. The skulls of birds are very thin and the beaks are very light.

For a cell to maintain the appropriate balance of materials inside and outside of the cell, materials must be able to move in an
Mnenie [13.5K]

The answer is; permeability

This is the property of a material to allow fluids to pass through them without being changed physically or chemically. The membrane of the cell is referred to as semi-permeable because it allows only particular fluid through it depending on the pore size of the cell membrane. Particles that are larger in size can only be taken up by active transport such as by endocytosis.
