The menstruation phase is characterized by decline in oestrogen and progesterone and a shedding of inner lining of uterus. There are phases of menstrual cycle and they are: menstruation, luteal phase, follicular phase, proliferative phase, and the secretory phase.

Menstruation is a period of normal shedding of blood. It starts from the time bleeding starts to the time it's end. Old blood tissues and uterus lining are pass out. Level of oestrogen and progesterone is low.

The estrogen and progesterone reduces together with shedding of the uterine lining. In this phase and the follicles starts to form in the ovary. As time goes on only one follicle which contains egss continues to develop in the ovary which is released later.
