X = lowest
x+2 = middle
x+4 = largest

x +      x+2 +    x + 4 = 54

Combine like terms to get 3x + 6 = 54
Subtract 6 (both sides)     <u>      -6     -6
</u>                                       <u>3</u>x = <u>48</u>
divide by 3 (both sides)     3       3

x = 16 (smallest even number)   x+2 = 18 (middle even number and x+4 = 20 (largest even number)   Add them up 16+18+ 20 and sure enough, you get 54

The way I like to do these is like this ... without algebra:

-- If the 54 were split up into three <em><u>equal</u></em> pieces,
each piece would be 1/3 of 54 = 18 .

-- Can you take three equal size-18 pieces and change them in
such a way that they're all different but their sum doesn't change,
and they still add up to 54 ?

-- How about like this:
<em>Take 2 away from one piece and glue it onto a different one</em>.
Now they still make the same 54 when you put them all into the same pot.
But now they're all different ... instead of 18, 18, 18, now you have 16, 18, 20.

Look ma !  No algebra !

Use the distributive property to create an equivalent expression to 7(2j + 3 + 2j).
Scorpion4ik [409]

Answer:

28j + 21

Step-by-step explanation:

combine like terms

7(2j+ 3+ 2j)

7(4j+3)

Distribute

7(4j + 3)

=

28j + 21

Given that a room is shaped like a golden rectangle, and the length is 29 ft with the ratio of  golden rectangle being (1+√5):2, thus the width of the room will be:
ratio of golden triangle=(length if the room)/(width of the room)
let the width be x
thus plugging the values in the expression we get:
29/x=(1+√5)/2
solving for x we get:
x/29=2/(1+√5)
thus
x=(29×2)/(1+√5)
answer is:
x=58/(1+√5)
or
 byrationalizing the denominator by multiplying both the numerator and the denominator by (1-√5)
58/(1+√5)×(1-√5)/(1-√5)
=[58(1-√5)]/1-5
=(58√5-58)/4

Answer:

  x = 8 1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

Put the known values into the equation and solve for x.

  f(x) = 3x -1

  24 = 3x -1 . . . . . use 24 for f(x)

  25 = 3x . . . . . . . add 1 to both sides

  25/3 = x . . . . . . divide both sides by 3

The input is x = 8 1/3.

(a) Find the size of each of two samples (assume that they are of equal size) needed to estimate the difference between the prop
zalisa [80]

Answer:

(a) The sample sizes are 6787.

(b) The sample sizes are 6666.

Step-by-step explanation:

(a)

The information provided is:

Confidence level = 98%

MOE = 0.02

n₁ = n₂ = n

\hat p_{1} = \hat p_{2} = \hat p = 0.50\ (\text{Assume})

Compute the sample sizes as follows:

MOE=z_{\alpha/2}\times\sqrt{\frac{2\times\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}

       n=\frac{2\times\hat p(1-\hat p)\times (z_{\alpha/2})^{2}}{MOE^{2}}

          =\frac{2\times0.50(1-0.50)\times (2.33)^{2}}{0.02^{2}}\\\\=6786.125\\\\\approx 6787

Thus, the sample sizes are 6787.

(b)

Now it is provided that:

\hat p_{1}=0.45\\\hat p_{2}=0.58

Compute the sample size as follows:

MOE=z_{\alpha/2}\times\sqrt{\frac{\hat p_{1}(1-\hat p_{1})+\hat p_{2}(1-\hat p_{2})}{n}

       n=\frac{(z_{\alpha/2})^{2}\times [\hat p_{1}(1-\hat p_{1})+\hat p_{2}(1-\hat p_{2})]}{MOE^{2}}

          =\frac{2.33^{2}\times [0.45(1-0.45)+0.58(1-0.58)]}{0.02^{2}}\\\\=6665.331975\\\\\approx 6666

Thus, the sample sizes are 6666.
