Answer:

Truman Doctrine

The Truman Doctrine was first stated by the president to Congress in 1947, saying: "It must be the policy of the United States to support free people who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures." Essentially, the Truman Doctrine pledged American effort elsewhere in the world to check the spread of communist and Soviet influence. The policy was first put into action in 1948 by providing economic support to Greece and Turkey to stave off communist movement in those countries. The essence of this policy was called "containment" -- keeping communism where it was and stopping it from spreading.

oksian1 [2.3K]
: Only about 2.8 million were drafted under the Selective Service System
All males aged 21 to 30 were required to register for military service for a service period of 12 months. As of mid-November 1917, all registrants were placed in one of five new classifications. Men in Class I were the first to be drafte and men in lower classifications were deferred. Dependency deferments for registrants who were fathers or husbands were especially widespread.[9] The age limit was later raised in August 1918 to a maximum age of 45. The military draft was discontinued in 1920
