What is the cost of 1 shirt if I have 3 shirts and 2 scarves totaling $94?

Let x be the cost of 1 shirt and y be the cost of 1 scarf.

Since, 3 shirts and 2 scarves cost $94, we have,

3x + 2y = 94

Since the number of unknowns is greater than the number of equations (2 > 1), the above system has infinitely many solutions.

If t is the cost of 1 scarf, then

3x + 2t = 94

3x = 94 - 2t

x = \frac{94-2t}{3}

For different values for t, we will get different values for x.

Set t = 2.

Then, x = \frac{94-2(2)}{3}

= \frac{94-4}{3}

= \frac{90}{3}

= 30

So, if the cost of 1 scarf is $2, then the cost of 1 shirt is $30.

Galina-37 [17]

Look at the picture.

Therefore we have the equation:

10y - 29 = 7y + 19       <em>add 29 to both sides</em>

10y = 7y + 48          <em>subtract 7y from both sides</em>

3y = 48      <em>divide both sides by 3</em>

y = 16

3x + 7 = 5x - 21            <em>subtract 7 from both sides</em>

3x = 5x = -28         <em>subtract 5x from both sides</em>

-2x = -28     <em>divide both sides by (-2)</em>

x = 14

Write the equation of a line that is perpendicular to y=-2/7x+9 and passes through the point (4,-6)
Ulleksa [173]
This is in slope-intercept form, so you can think of it as being y=mx+b. Invert m (the slope) and flip its sign, and then substitute the x and y values in and solve for b. The answer is y=7/2x-20.
